How Geothermal Works

Geothermal works because whether you’re in northerm Canada or southern Florida, the temperature of the earth is fairly consistent all year round. The ground absorbs 47% of the sun’s energy and keeps the earth at a consistent temperature. GeoStar geothermal systems tap into this abundant energy with a series of underground pipes called an earth loop - which is where the heat transfer takes place.

During the heating cycle, the heat from the ground is extracted from the ground to the GeoStar geothermal heat pump. The heat is concentrated by the geothermal heat pump and is distributed through a duct system as warm air, through in-floor pipes for radiant heating systems or into your water heater for domestic water.

During cooling, the system reverses and the opposite happens. Heat is pulled from the home and is placed either into your water heater or transferred back into the ground. This leaves cool conditioned air throughout the home.
